New District Lead Volunteer appointed for Warrington East

Mike Timmins has been appointed to lead Warrington East as District Lead Volunteer from 1st December 2023.

Dave Hopley, County Lead Volunteer said,

“I am delighted to have appointed Mike as District Lead Volunteer for Warrington East.  Mike is a dedicated Warrington Scouter, who is enthusiastic for a fresh challenge and full of fresh ideas to lead the District to its next chapter.

“I’d also like to say a massive thank you to Val Thomason and Joanne Turner for their interim leadership of Warrington East District over the past few months, they will continue to support the new District Lead Volunteer while we develop a sustainable leadership team for the District.”

Professionally Mike is a Senior Service Manager for Department of Work and Pensions Mobile Device Team overseeing the Live Service Support Desk and the deployment of the mobile devices used throughout the Department.

Mike’s Scouting journey started as a Assistant Scout Leader 1982 becoming Scout Leader a few years later at 2nd Dunham Massey Scouts.  In 1986 the group moved Headquarters into Cheshire becoming 5th Warrington 1st Oughtrington. Mike has also been District Scout Leader and in September 2013 he was appointed ADC Scouts. He also serves on the Appointment Board for the District. In 1987 Mike was selected to help lead the Cheshire contingent to the 16th World Scout Jamboree to Australia.

Outside of Scouting Mike is the Chief Marshal for Knutsford and District Motor Club supporting their events by leading a team of marshals. As both a licensed MSUK Stage Commander for Forest Stage Rallies and a Safety Car Official he can often be found in a forest in Wales supporting events.

On his appointment Mike said, 

“I am delighted to be given this opportunity to Lead Warrington East as we continue with the Skills for Life journey and look forward to building a strong team, providing great opportunities and some exciting times ahead.”

Val Thomason added,

“I am really thrilled about the appointment of Mike as the new District Lead Volunteer for Warrington East. He has been a hardworking member of the District Leadership Team. His enthusiasm for Scouting and ideas for the future will, I know, ensure that the District continues to grow and flourish and I wish him every success in her new role.”
